Many holidays and occasions call for a gift of flowers. To accommodate this, grocery stores like Whole Foods have a floral department that sells premade bouquets. However, Whole Foods also sells flowers by the stem and in custom bouquets year round. There are several types of blooms on offer, all of which are organic and locally grown.
Does Whole Foods Sell Flowers?
Whole Foods has a Floral department in every store which handles the sale of bouquets and arrangements. These flowers are organic and locally grown by climate-responsible farmers. Some flowers have the “Sourced for Good” label, but not all of them.
You can see what a Whole Foods flower department may look at by checking out the image I took above. I decided to head to Whole Foods just to show my readers exactly what they can look like and to truthfully prove that Whole Foods does sell flowers.
How are Flowers Sold at Whole Foods?
Florists typically sell flowers in premade bouquets, custom bouquets, and by the stem. Whole Foods offers all these services. However, to see what is available at your local location you can either visit them in person or you can call the floral department.
Premade Bouquets
A handful of traditional bouquets are on offer at Whole Foods year-round. Gift-giving holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc. may have seasonal bouquet designs associated with them. My personal favorite is a gorgeous Winter Wonderland bouquet that comes out around December.
Custom Bouquets
Many Whole Foods locations offer custom floral arrangements. However, you will need to call your local store to find out if they offer this service. These arrangements can be pricey
Flowers by the Stem
While you can order a custom bouquet in the traditional sense, Whole Foods also sells cut flowers by the stem. This means you can select the flowers of your choice and make your own bouquet. This is typically cheaper than a custom bouquet while maintaining a unique arrangement.
Types of Flowers at Wholefoods
Whole Foods Sells several flowers by the stem including
- Roses
- Hydrangeas
- Carnations
- Tulips
- Lilies
- Mixed Greens
- Astromeria
- etc…
Other blooms are likely to be available at your location depending on supply and the season.
Does Whole Foods Sell Succulents?
Succulents are on offer from the floral department of most Whole Foods locations. They come pre-potted and may include decorations for relevant occasions. The company also has instructions on how to care for its succulents on its website.
When is the Whole Foods Floral Department Open?
The floral department has the same hours as the rest of the store. If you have any questions, you can find your local locations’ hours on their website.
Are Whole Foods’ Flowers Expensive?
While Whole Foods has a reputation for being quite expensive, its premade bouquets are similar in cost to other grocery stores. I cannot speak to the price of their custom bouquets, which will vary depending on the desired design.
Do Floral Bouquets from Whole Foods come with flower food?
Yes, you will receive with a bouquet a small flower food packet. It contains nutrients to help the flowers last longer such as sugar and citric acid, and a small amount of bleach. To use it, simply dump it into the water-filled vase before you add the flowers.
What Does “Sourced for Good” mean?
You may notice that some floral arrangements and other products at Whole Foods say that they are “Sourced for Good.” This means that the product was purchased from a supplier with whom Whole Foods has a charitable relationship. Common charitable ventures include raising wages for workers, planting trees for soil retention, or student scholarships.
Final Thoughts
Flowers are great for many occasions including weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and graduations. You can find a variety of floral options at Whole Foods including premade bouquets, custom arrangements, and flowers sold by the stem. These flowers are not only reasonably priced but they are also grown locally and organically.
