Until recently, Trader Joe’s has not offered many health and beauty products. However, this seems to slowly be changing. Now, Trader Joe’s does carry some essential oils products. However, it is not likely enough to sate die-hard aromatherapy fans. In this article, I will cover what Trader Joe’s has on their shelves, and where you can find anything else you may want.
What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are oily substances obtained from plants by mechanical pressing or distillation. Depending on the plant, the oil may be from the seeds, leaves, flowers, or a mixture of these.
Essential oils are popular in aromatherapy and are often used in body products like soap and lotion. Some people believe that topical application of essential oils can be used to treat medical ailments, but effectiveness varies.
Some evidence exists to support the use of topical essential oils for some ailments, such as congestion, while it does not seem to help with others.
Essential Oils at Trader Joe’s
Until recently, Trader Joe’s had a very lackluster health and body department. Now they are slowly expanding their offerings. Trader Joe’s carries a handful of essential oil products.
Trader Joe’s Essential Oil Collection (Seasonal Essential Oils Collection)
The Trader Joe’s Essential Oil Collection comes with 3 oils and a wool diffuser. The essential oil scents are eucalyptus, lemons, and lavender. Simply apply the essential oils on the wool, place it in the tube and enjoy the fragrance.
This is seasonally available. As far as I can tell, this is the only product Trader Joe’s has which allows you to control the mixture and type of oils you are using. However, it is not consistently available.
Trader Joe’s Mood Odyssey Roller Blends
This is a box set of four essential oil rollers. They are called Bliss, Relax, Awake, and Sleep. These rollers contain several essential oils each and are meant for topical application. They smell very nice and are purported to inspire the mood they are named after. The packaging is adorable.
Tea Tree Oil Bath Products
Several products in the bath aisle contain essential oils, usually tea tree oil along with something else. Trader Joe’s carries a Peppermint and Tea Tree Oil Shampoo Bar, Lavender and Tea Tree Oil Dish Soap, and Refresh Citrus Body Wash.
Other Places to Buy Essential Oils
For pure essential oils that offer more options, you will have to choose another retailer. Places that carry a large selection of essential oils include Walmart, local Vitamin and Supplement stores, and Amazon.
My favorite variety pack of oils comes from Laguna Moon and is available on Amazon. For essential oil-containing face and body products, consider Lush or The Body Shop.
Final Thoughts
Trader Joe’s has recently been growing their health and beauty department, but they are still not a great place to buy essential oils. They currently only have a handful of products containing essential oils, and most come in predetermined blends.
Instead, I suggest taking advantage of what they do have and then going to another retailer like Amazon for pure essential oils. For a greater selection of bath and beauty products containing essential oils, you might also consider a store such as Lush.
